Are There Punishments For Creating Fake News?

All these people spread fake news but is there any a punishment for them? The answer is...not really… yet. Currently in the United States we don’t have any fake news specific legislation, and it’s difficult to prosecute somebody who willingly admits to spreading fake news. However, recently a whole slew of European, Asian, and some African countries have turned to the law to stop this menace. In Germany in 2017, a law adopted prohibits “the posting on social media of hate speech, child pornography, terror-related items and false information.” Similar laws are under review in France and in Brazil, “No less than 14 draft laws related to "fake news" are under examination in the Brazilian parliament.” Both Kenya and Malaysia also have new laws enacted to prohibit the spread of false information with penalties of 2 years jail and $50,000 for "false, misleading or fictitious data" in Kenya, and penalties of 6 years and $130,000 in Malaysia for “the propagation of partially or totally false information.” All these laws make you speculate why hasn’t the United States done something effective about the spread of false information?
