Fake news and disinformation is increasing at an alarming rate. It seems as if every night a politician is seen on T.V. claiming something heard or said was fake news. If everybody knows this is such a problem, then how do we stop it? Brookings suggests a number of things such as promoting news literacy programs, regulating news companies more, and having the viewer increase their sources from which they get their news to stop the spread of fake news. As a result, “Everyone has a responsibility to combat the scourge of fake news. This ranges from supporting investigative journalism, reducing financial incentives for fake news, and improving digital literacy among the general public.” So next time you see that the Pope endorsed Bernie Sanders or that Hillary Clinton is fostering an alien, don’t click the share button.
