Is Google Listening?

Google homes and smart speakers are gaining popularity quickly as of late. However, users are now concerned that these smart hubs have been listening without their consent. Google's product, the Nest, had a built in microphone, without the users knowing. Google claims that they failed to let the consumer know and has issued a public apology. The company also stated that "the on-device microphone was never intended to be a secret." This feature only can be used if the user customizes the product and activates the setting. Google incorporated this feature only to make way for future improvements to the product.
