JHR: WE ARE FOR HUMANITY
By: Selena Peterson
I have done a blog about animal rights, and journalism for the wildlife who can’t speak for themselves, now I would like to expand on a bigger voice, the voice of the people. One person can talk as loud as they want and still be unheard, but if you turn one into 100 how possibly could you ignore that? That’s exactly the mindset of a Canadian journalist group called Journalism for human right or JHR. This is almost an activist group for human rights but instead of small protests they use their knowledge and ability to discover to their advantage. I think the best Quality of JHR is that lack of experience of journalism does not disqualify you from this group, they will teach you. One of their goals is to bring in aspiring journalists and teach them about human rights, what are the changes that need to be made to make our world a more peaceful environment. The founders value documentation having someone to take down Timeless events, even capture them. JHR has one main goal and that is “For everyone in the world to be aware of their rights.” This means rights for every human. To make sure they can cover as much as they can JHR sends their journalists around the world, this organization has sent journalists to over 27 countries to give places like Uganda the voice it lacks. Lastly I would like to touch on JHR peaceful approach to everyone of their blogs, JHR is known for documenting political comings and their beauty one being a blog about the president of South Sudan and his opposite who haven’t had a peaceful shaking hands, which even though isn’t a signed contract shows progress with the two leaders and their countries. Luckily enough a journalist form JHR was their and able to document this historical and peaceful moment. Stories such as the handshake is the foundation of JHR. JHR has reached 50 million people through journalism and if that’s not something to praise then I’m not sure what is.
