The front page of any newspaper is important because it is the first thing the reader sees. Chances are if the front page doesn’t make the reader inclined they are not going to buy that newspaper. The front page generally tells you what is going to be in the newspaper that day, so putting the more interesting stories in a larger and different font is what will likely convince the reader to buy that newspaper. Newsuem.com gives us thousands of front pages from all over the world. So I decided to compare a couple of them throughout the next two blog posts. The first two I compared are two that are both from the U.S. but different states. I wanted to see how the difference, if there was any, from state to state. I did one from Palm Beach, Florida and one from Kansas City Missouri. I looked at the “Palm Beach Daily News” first and most of the stories are about the beach. The largest one and most appealing to the eye is titled “Abandoned boat begins to break apart” Like most newspapers it had a preview of the article so I read it. The boat had been there since January 23rd, and the author mentioned that “ a few days later the U.S. Coast Guard revealed that, on Jan. 20, it had rescued 31 Haitians from the 32-foot fiberglass vessel after finding it adrift 9 miles north of Bimini, Bahamas”(Rhodes). I thought that was pretty interesting, because I was curious as to why it was washed up. I found the front page of “The Kansas City Star” and right away was interested by an article titled, “Couple Works to Clear Path Through Fresh Snow” It only gave a short description of what was going on. As you would suspect the two newspapers have their differences but also have some similarities. The main difference between the two front pages was that the Palm Beach one had more of the story on the front page and the Kansas City one made you want to buy it so you can read more. Personally I found the Kansas City Newspaper more appealing due to the type of stories they advertised.
