Medical Error

I found it extremely interesting that journalists are now finding out about and writing about how medical error is actually the third leading cause of death in the United States. Medical error is an
unintentional death caused from a failure of a plan that causes harm or death to a patient. I found this extremely shocking, especially because I have never even seen an article written about medical error. The article proves that this is a leading cause of death by stating that “a  major limitation of the death certificate is that it relies on assigning an International Classification of Disease (ICD) code to the cause of death.” Then it goes on to say that “as a result, causes of death not associated with an ICD code, such as human and system factors, are not captured” (Makary). Many people would probably not guess this as one of the top three leading causes of death in the United States.
