Finding
Fake News:
With so much “fake” news that is spreading
around the world, what can you truly believe? I’ve spoken to so many people
that say that they don’t even keep track of all of the small/even somewhat big
news because they just don’t know. The bad part of their idea is what if there
is something extremely important like the recent government shut down and they
don’t know until they realize that it truly effects them and people around.
According to Jessica Mason, there are 7 steps to help filter out the disinformation
from the real information. One of those 7 steps most people need to do if they
are not doing it yet and that is “Identify and differentiate disinformation
content creators”. This is where you can go onto the internet and look up the
recent news and multiple tabs would pop up, well identifying them is like doing
investigative work. You would just first need to look at the URL and see if it’s
a .gov, .org, .edu, ect. or is it a .com. When I look at a .com site, I find it
kind of both ways so then I would go to the bottom of the article (page) and
see if they have a work cited page or a reference and go from there. You can
find out the other 6 steps at https://www.interaction.org/newsroom/blog/7-ways-combat-disinformation.
