While it may be true that media outlets try to put their
own spin on major current events, there are instances
where major news can spark a common outcome among
various sources. To exemplify, September 11, 2001 was
a major crisis that every U.S. citizen can agree was tragic,
terrifying, and devastating to the country. On the very next
day, thousands of newspapers were formulated with similar
headlines such as “Assault on America” from The Wichita Eagle,
“America Under Attack” from The Town Talk, and “Nation in Anguish”
from The San Diego Union-Tribune all of which had enlarged pictures
of the destruction plastered on their front pages. Although each
newspaper company was using rhetorical strategies to encourage
their audiences to read, for a brief moment in history each media
outlet came together in a time of devastation and produced a
similar product so that every American could be informed of that
very incident. [3 images, 3 quotations, 3 links, 154 words]
