Fake News - The Agency

There are many companies that are paid just to create fake news and it's sickening. People find happiness in creating concern and worry in their readers. There was an article from The New York Times that was recently released called "The Agency." In the beginning of the article, they explain how in St. Mary Parish, Louisiana, there was a call coming in from a frantic young lady saying that there was a text sent out about toxic fumes that have leaked from a company called Columbian Chemicals. The article then goes on to say how The Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness started to investigate the situation and find out that a building in Russia was sending out these concerning alerts to people in America as a tactic to scare them. These Russian people were paid to create real life video and pictures of an explosion that so happened to take place at the Columbian Chemical as another way to convince the citizens that the crisis was real. They also created "hundreds of twitter accounts that were documenting a disaster right down the road" (Chen). Companies will go into great detail when trying to provide fake news so it is very important that we analyze every aspect of the topic and to really investigate the real truth. The New York Times [1 image, 1 link, 1 quotation, 218 words].
