Find the Fake
Everyone falls for fake news from time to time. No one is safe from the fake news that circles the internet constantly. But why is this plague of fake news happening? Fake news, or misinformation, "is part of an online economy that weaponizes social media to profit from. . . clicks and attention" (Fowler). Most of the time after seeing an intriguing title to a news article there will be links to certain websites that are "filled with advertisements or spyware, which might attempt to invade our online privacy" (Fowler). Fowler's advice to avoid falling for the constant fake news in our feeds is to "stop and consider the source" before you accidentally spread false information and potentially harm your friends with spyware.
