Another misleading headline was one related to an international agreement which the Trump administration recently pulled out of. This information is located here: https://www.reddit.com/r/HeadlineCorrections/comments/anjlng/hc_context_is_key_theyre_starting_a_six_month/ The Intermediate-range Nuclear Forces treaty had stood for over three decades, but was nullified in the US by Trump-- this is the basis of the article. The title is highly sensationalist and seeks to provoke nuclear war-related fears in the reader, in reality the U.S. left the agreement due to Russian violations, which the article’s title leaves out in favor of “arms race fears”. The way the title is worded appeals to the audience’s emotions and political views, hoping that both detractors and supporters of President Trump would gain a negative association with his actions. While there has been much controversy over Trump’s disagreements with America’s allies, in this case the British defence secretary stated that NATO supports the U.S. decision and accused Russia of “making a mockery” of the agreement. These kinds of fake news headlines are dangerous because they threaten the availability of information to the people, and would be just as misleading under a Democratic president.
