The website Reddit is an outlet for a variety of media. This media is compiled from different sources and virtually any subject can be discussed; the site is designed with a system of ‘subreddits’ where users can post about a particular subject. One such community, located at www.reddit.com/r/HeadlineCorrection, is dedicated to finding examples of misleading titles and correcting inaccuracies based on the contents of the attached article. These are often political in nature, but can also be related to other subjects without a particular political leaning. In this particular post, a user has found a clearly misleading title from the Washington Post under which the reader will gain a false impression from the article’s title. Though President Trump had installed a replacement for a “less sophisticated simulator that had been installed under President Barack Obama,” the headline is an example of fake news in that it creates a false impression for the reader. The headline causes the reader to jump to a conclusion based on pathos-- anyone with an interest in Trump’s actions will immediately gain an emotionally negative impression of this action.
