Front Page News - Vancouver vs. Los Angeles

There are many similarities and differences between the United States and Canada. They share a border and a continent. but do they share the same outlook on daily life? I noticed that many front pages of Canadian newspapers include some positive news, such as the Star Metro Vancouver whose feature story has a headline reading "'Really good news for child care'". Wouldn't that be a nice way to start your morning, reading about something that helps out families with children in need of child care? In comparison, we have the Los Angeles Times, as I figured Los Angeles is America's Vancouver (big city, densely populated, well known, west coast, etc.).
The front cover of the Los Angeles Times is not only less colorful and cheery feeling, but full headlines such as "Wall threatens sacred land" and "Putin edges closer to renewed arms race". The words 'threatens' and 'arms race' do not spark joy in me the way 'really good news' does. [161 words, 2 images, 1 link, 3 quotes]
