Lubbock Sex Trafficking
Going to school at Texas Tech University and being a part of a sorority is a huge commitment and something girls need to take seriously considering the recent sex trafficking reports in Lubbock, Texas. There was an incident that was brought to my attention in a FaceBook group, “TTU Sorority Yard Sale”, that all the sorority girls are apart of. A greek life member was driving to the local Lubbock Mall, with her sorority letters on the back of her car and noticed that she was getting followed. Luckly, she new to call the police, the police had told her to start heading toward the nearest police station while they were on the phone. Sadly, this is not the only suspicious activity going on in Lubbock. A local new station, https://www.everythinglubbock.com/news/klbk-news/sex-trafficking-becoming-more-prevalent-in-lubbock-and-surrounding-communities/1595017670 , states "It's getting worse and worse, and so we want to educate the public on the fact that it is here in Lubbock, because most people don't think we have that problem and we do. Last year, we worked 69 cases of sex trafficking here in the Lubbock and the surrounding rural communities." Sex trafficking is relevant in all parts of the world but, it is not something to look past. I asked my friend her opinion on the sensitive topic, her response was “The police are not taking it as serious as they should. In a college town with a lot of young girls who are easily susceptible to it.” She uses rhetoric by stating that the police need to take a stronger approach when dealing with sex traffickers.
