New Favorite Fact Checker

With the rise of the internet and a faster and more easily accessible window into current events
has also brought about the spread of faulty and untrustworthy information. With internet culture
and rumors on Facebook and in the news, Snopes.com has been investing in the rumors that
spread through the filters of the media. The website is known to do in-depth research and
digging to find the sources of misidentified/captioned pictures or quotes, fact-checking
political claims to put down candidate support, and finding out whether a certain article uses correct and
reliable sources or not. The website is constantly updating with each day so that the fake news
can be treated as soon as it spreads. One such example of their work is in the headline “Was a
Hindu girl burned alive for attending a Christian prayer service” where Snopes later quickly
found how it was spread quickly from a video of a Guatemala village shaming a woman for her
involvement of the death of a cab driver. Websites like this are perfect ways to discover new
information while straying away from faulty told events in articles.
