Remember in elementary school when you were first taught about fake news? Most of the people I know learned about it when the teacher showed us an article about the pacific northwest tree octopus and its endangerment. The website itself looks reliable, uses a high vocabulary, facts to support it, as well as pictures to prove the octopus's existence. Of course, as young children, we all believed it until we were told the full truth, and why it was the opposite. Of course I believed that
"Their habitat lies on the Eastern side of the Olympic mountain range, adjacent to Hood Canal, " and that " Unlike most other cephalopods, tree octopuses are amphibious, spending only their early life and the period of their mating season in their ancestral aquatic environment." This article uses mainly logos as well as photos to create a false sense of credibility and attract its readers.
