There’s an App For That

The ways in which we consume digital media are evolving
faster than the technologies we consume said media on.
There are quite possibly millions of digital applications
available to us with just a quick tap and a simple search.
With such a variety of media apps to choose from, each
application has a distinct method in providing up-to-date
information. For instance, social media has proven to be
one of the most influential media platforms of the twenty-first
century, more specifically Twitter. Twitter allows users to
search anything from “16 states file lawsuit challenging
Trump’s emergency” to “Las Vegas residents receive a
surprise snow shower”. Not only is all this information located
in one centralized place, but one can also customize what
they see by “following” certain accounts that provide daily
or even hourly news. Other media platforms in comparison
provide news about only one topic - in this case football.
The NFL Mobile app provides users with any information
regarding the NFL. However, an individual cannot customize
this app. Instead, the app provides the individual with fresh,
daily content entitled either “What’s Trending” or simply
“Headlines". Although, I suppose that if an individual downloads
an application that focuses on one particular topic, in a way they
are customizing their news exposure to fit their desires. I guess
that’s something to think about. [2 images, 4 quotations, 2 links, 221 words]
