This is Fraud

This Is Fraud
By: Selena Peterson

Most people know this as the “Wakefield fraud” which can be explained to a higher extent in the movie “Vaxxed.” To give a run down Andrew Wakefield he was a gastroenterologist that had been doing a research on vaccinations and the relation of Autism. According to the data the published there was a link between the MMR vaccination and autism. Andrew Wakefield and 12 other scientist went public with this data around 1998. This caused the vaccination rates to drop this was due to parents worried about their children developing autism. This series of articles caught the attention around the world and was not for the benefit of the public. Shortly after this information was published Andrew Wakefield and including 10 other of the publishers had decided to retract their backing of the link to MMR vaccination and autism. Though this paper did not get as much publicity as the original research. Those in the medical field found this very suspicious. Also a problem for our communities. “no causal link was established between MMR vaccine and autism as the data were insufficient,” other doctors and scientists had also spoke on the retraction of the data, and all of them could not help but wonder how Wakefield got his data which almost so clearly represented his claim with the appropriate evidence, and why would he have retracted such a spot on numbers? These questions would soon be answered when they did investigation into Wakefield’s funding. To be able to do research you must be funded because extensive research takes money and time. So when investors found that “Wakefield had been funded by lawyers who had been engaged by parents in lawsuits against vaccine-producing companies.” Everything clicked, and Wakefield’s evidence made sense. He had alternative motives and money to motivate him  to present data that would benefit him and the people backing him.
