With technology playing a substantial role in society, it has also changed the way we perceive every day news. Often people turn to social media to find recent news that they could relate to that is usually populated by the people they follow. For instance, my Facebook feed is filled with post that are often reflective of my followers views which has the ability to limit what information I read and absorb. Little did I know, some of the articles portray false and unethical information. Furthermore, research shows many of these clickbait articles on things like Twitter and Facebook are what news reporters would call fake news. Seemingly, some of the fake news spread is a result of bots, but mostly users are the ones reposting and spreading the false information. A recent article from https://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/fake-news-lies-spread-faster-social-media-truth-does-n854896 states, “If it seems like fake news is everywhere, that may be because it is. Falsehoods spread like wildfire on social media, getting quicker and longer-lasting pickup than the truth, researchers reported on Thursday.” If this is the case, society needs to be more aware of the information they choose to believe and make sure that it is coming from a reliable source. This could be a bigger issue in the future if we so choose to believe everything we see. [223 words, 1 link, 1 quotation, 2 pictures]
