On February 22, 1944 a US bomber crashed in Sheffield
park, UK carrying 10 airmen. None of them survived the fatal crash that day.
There was a man named Tony Foulds who had seen the entire thing. At first “I
thought they were waving at me but turns out they were telling me to get out of
the way”. The aircrew tried to land in the trees to get away from the people in
the park but crashed into the ground. Tony tends to the memorial that was
created in the 1970s regularly to keep the plants and ground clean and neat. He
always wanted a flyby to commemorate the 10 men who lost their lives that day. Today
on February 22, 2019, his wish came true from the Reserve Base 352nd
Special Operations Wing, the 100th Air Refueling Wing. The aircraft
flyby took place and Tony Foulds was able to see it.
