Zika virus and microcephaly

Another article that really caught my eye was one that was about the Zika virus being associated with microcephaly. If you aren’t aware, the Zika virus is a deadly virus that an individual can get from mosquitoes, while microcephaly is a cognitive disorder that causes a baby to be born with a very tiny head. The reason this caught my eye is because you would never think of a virus with a mosquito having to deal with the shape or size that a baby’s head turns out to be. The journalist really made this article appealing because it provided images of a normal brain compared to one with microcephaly and the differences are unbelievable! It stated in the article that they did an experiment on a pregnant woman in Brazil (where the Zika virus is most common) that experienced a rash that seemed like the Zika during her first trimester. The article then proceeded to say that when the doctors did a fetal autopsy “Microcephaly was observed.”
