Challenge Accepted

Elizabeth Jane Cochran is the most well known female journalist in the United States, but some people only know her at Nellie Bly. Nellie Bly moved to New York in 1886 where she got a job at the Pittsburgh Dispatch and had told the editor that she only wanted to write articles that “only addressed to women”. Being the most famous female journalist in history what had made her who she was, was accepting a challenge from the New York World’s editor. Bly originally confronted the editor to see if she could write a story about the immigrant experience, but after she was turned down he had challenged her to investigate and write a story on a mental hospital. Nellie Bly was a very smart woman, she was bold enough to have a “feign mental illness” so she could really get an inside scoop for her news story. This one courageous move made her a famous journalist in history.
