Front Page First Impression

When looking at front page news articles there are 3 major things that determine the audience’s absorption of the news right off the bat. The layout, the headline, and photographs. The layout is the first thing the reader will notice, if there is a picture, advertisements, lots of white space etc. this will further lead to the interest of the reader. For example The Auburn Plainsman has a large celebratory, vibrant picture when you first open the article which engages the reader more than a black and white photo would. A page with lots of advertisements would indicate the website does not really care about the story being produced but the money being made. The headline can say a lot about a site’s political stance, opinions or beliefs, for example The Arizona Republic reports “Mom on Youtube Accused of Abuse” or “Attacks and Rebukes” the words used lean towards a more negative denotation giving off an unsupportive approach to the subject.
