Front Page News: Hurricane Katrina

Looking at a few different Newspaper front covers about Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans
2005, there are different ways that newspapers went about depicting the hurricane. The first article,
“Gone ‘We Lost Everything’” uses pathos by depicting a family in front of their destroyed house in tears
due to everything that they had lost in the storm. It also goes on to state that “Katrina punches
Pascagoula with unprecedented water and wind” to show other things that the hurricane are effecting.
The second article has more of a violent tone, starting with the title ,“Killer Katrina”, which is presented
in all black bolded capital letters. The picture depicts an ambulance engulfed in water, not able to
move. The article then goes on to state “Hurricane slams into Gulf Coast, dozens dead”. While both
article are talking about the same thing, the second article has a more violent tone and goes straight
to the point that dozens of people were killed.
