“It could have been me”

Southwest and American Airlines are canceling hundreds of flights as “federal regulators continue to investigate two deadly crashes” on a popular plane model, the Boeing 737 Max aircraft. The design of the plane is being called into question after lawmakers decided to add a new flight control system without offering proper training to pilots. Investigations and software fixes are being performed on the plane model to get it back up and running as soon as possible.

Affordable companies such as Southwest and American Airlines tend to be many people’s go-to option for financial reasons. Because the two companies are so popular, over 70 Boeing Max planes were flying in and out of DFW airports even after officials knew about the first crash involving the model. It was not until two back to back crashes occurred that the Boeing Max model became officially grounded. I asked a friend who often flies through air travel what she thought about the recent crashes. At first, she was shocked to just be hearing about this for the first time. More than anything, she was glad to not have had any flights scheduled in the past few months, commenting “it could have been me on that plane.”
