On March 26 2019, The Dallas Morning News reported about a Mckinney mom suing TwinCreeks KinderCare in Allen over a teacher biting her child. With no surveillance footage, there is no hard evidence to back up the mom’s theory, however, the bite received by the three-year-old toddler was confirmed by a physician to be an adult bite.
Because I work at a childcare facility, I was able to ask some actual teachers how they thought problems such as this could be prevented in a preschool or daycare setting. One of my colleagues responded that to protect both children and teachers, “there should be cameras in every classroom so abuse cannot go behind closed doors.” On the other hand, going back to surveillance footage can prove a teacher’s innocence.
Another one of my colleagues suggested that there be “higher standards” for hiring caretakers. The article clearly states that the Twin Creeks KinderCare had already received two citations for hiring teachers without proper background checks. I think everyone can agree that state regulations on safety policies could be stronger to help prevent unfortunate situations like this from occurring.
