One issue that is going on in Mexican communities is deportation, and being Mexican myself this issue is close to me and my family. Recently I had an uncle get deported due to his work visa expiring which was really hard for me and my family. I interviewed my aunt, the wife of the uncle who was deported and she said, “It hurts, they just ripped my husband from me and his family, my kids ask me why did they take daddy away?” This comment almost brought me to tears because I could never imagine someone taking my father away. A similar situation happened to another family, their father was taken from them. According to the son, “That’s when the tears came, when your biggest fears become a reality. I was crying for a while.” This is so common and touches lives of many Mexican-American families. It’s sad that these families have to go through that no one should have to worry about having their families broken up.
