Fake News Education in Ukraine

Students in Ukraine are being taught how to distinguish fake news.  "The Listen to Discern program, funded by the U.S. and U.K. embassies in Ukraine, was tested in 50 schools" (Ingber).  The students are being taught to really scrutinize photos used in articles and cross check them using a reverse image search.  This gives them insight into whether the photo has been pulled from an unrelated source or actually belongs with the story.  They are also learning to distinguish facts from opinions in articles and interestingly, the female students are proving better at differentiating fact from fiction.  This is something the educators are trying to find a reason for.  By 2021, there will be around 650 schools in Ukraine teaching this material to help students weed out fake news.
