Fake News in India
With the upcoming elections in India, there has been many ‘fake news’ spread through social media platforms. The most common way they are fooling their viewers is by using current news and using that situation to their benefit. There was a recent bombing in India that killed 40 soldiers. Weeks later, there was a recording of what one political figure said in regard to the situation. However, “the recording was not real. It was made by putting together different pieces of audio from older stories.” Many fake accounts have been made to try to discourage people to vote towards a particular party, and commonly we see a compilation of clips that might sway voters to another party. With the population in India being as large as it is, news spreads like wildfire especially through popular platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook that makes it harder to know right from wrong, and the people creating the ‘fake news’ take advantage of these situations.
