Journalism, a way of bringing the truth to the people. People
who choose the path of journalism either are passionate about it or just see it
as their duty to report the truth to the people. Journalists are those people
who will go to any extent to find out the truth of a story. If the law
enforcement are not doing their duty then it's the journalists who make sure
that the truth reaches to the people. Following this rule, journalists in
Bangladesh also try to do the same but the result after this? They end up in
either jail or getting murdered. An example is the arrest of Photographer
Shahidul Alam who is an internationally recognized journalist. A protest was
started by the students in Dhaka,Bangladesh after some students death in road
accidents, Shahidul Alam spoke on behalf of the students and supported them. he
talked against the government labeling them as corrupted and illegal. After
that he was arrested and torture and was released after many months due to the
international political affairs. This has been happening for a long time now in
Bangladesh. Whenever a journalist tries to bring out the truth in Bangladesh
he/she either gets killed or ends up in jail or be a victim of legal
harassment. "An epic example of this is Mahfuz Anam - editor and publisher of The Daily Star, who in 2016 faced 79 cases- 62 for defamation, 17 for sedition- after expressing regret for previously publishing reports on uncorroborated corruptions allegations against top political leaders." After all this events it is fair to ask that "Are Journalists Safe in Bangladesh?" [1 image, 2 links, 1 quotations, 273 words]
