SNAPCHAT . VS .  TWITTER

You have probably heard of these two major social media pages before. Twitter and Snapchat. They are major media pages to receive the latest information on your friends. But did you know that their also big pages to receive news updates too. In the article Snap opens up crowdsourced ‘Our Story’ content to news organizations like CNN and NBC News, Snapchat is recognized for adding new news feeds to viewers viewing page. Between Twitter and Snapchat, these two platforms have different styles for delivering news updates. On Snapchat, news updates are based off two things; current trending news events and your news suggestions. On Twitter news events are based off the major trending news. On Snapchat, they tend to use sarcasm and Pathos to deliver the news. The want to information to connect to the views and draw them closer to hearing more. While on twitter, it tends to use more Logos and Ethos to deliver news. Twitter gives you articles, information and detail to all the news events. There is greater sense of just delivering the news, on Twitter. In an article by PCMAG, they wrote that Twitter has promised to send "alerts "based on your interests (like who you follow and what you Tweet about)" rather than just breaking news."

Spotlight

Spotlight
Spotlightis without a doubt one of the most compelling, most insightful movie on investigative journalism since “All the President’s Men. Spotlight, is based on the 2002 investigations of a massive child sexual abuse scandal perpetrated by hundreds of priest of the Catholic Church. A spectacular investigative journalism team at the Boston Globe led the investigation. These reporters spent years carefully tracking down any, and all leads related to the child molestation claims against its clergy. The team found various cases of sexual abuse, but the worst was a priest who molested more than 80 young boys during his time in the priesthood. Spotlight shows the real  role of a journalist who is the seek out the truth and Regardless of the toll and irrespective of who or what is in your way in order to reveal the truth regardless of how hard to digest it could be.

Journalists in the Wild

Journalists in the Wild
Robert Fisk
Robert Fisk a British journalist who has been based in Beirut as the Middle East correspondent for “The Independent”for over 20 years. Robert holds more British and international journalism awards than any other foreign correspondent. Known for his fearlessness in reporting and ability to access notoriously inaccessible figures and places, Robert got to interview Al-Qaeda leader Osama Bin Laden during the 1990s; and managed to do it three times. He also believed that the war with Iraq was just a setup, “Irather think that we are being set up for war. In fact, we are being prepared for the awful, incredible, unspeakable possibility that the UN inspectors will find absolutely no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq”. For him truth was always more important than the facts.

Crocodile Hunter

Today marks the birthday of Steve Irwin, a well known Animal lover and Zookeeper who informed this generation about several wild animals. During an interview he stated "I believe that education is all about being excited about something. Seeing passion and enthusiasm helps push an educational message." I couldn't agree more with his quote. there seems to be a lot of ignorance regarding the preservation of wildlife and coexisting with dangerous species.

ConspiMartin Luther King Jr's Murder

To some April 4, 1968 is just another day but to African American's it signifies the day that a true hero and African American Role Model was killed by the U.S Government. Yes, the U.S government framed James Earl Ray as the killer of Martin Luther King Jr. It is a known fact that the government surveillance Dr. King and his colleagues in hopes to convict him of crimes and eventually kill him. FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover.  40 years later, William Pepper defended Mr. Ray in a mock trial against the Memphis Government where evidence showed that Mr. Ray did not kill Dr. King.

gun violence

At increasing rates, students attending school are losing their lives due to gun violence. The latest shooting was at Parkland High School in Florida where 17 students lost their lives. On March 14, 2018 students across the country walked out of class to protest gun violence. The front page news coverage of this event posted the words "enough is enough" which is the adopted phrase of those protesting gun violence. Pictures on every front page revealed kids of all ages protesting outside of their schools with signs and wearing orange to honor those who died at Parkland. These front page news articles really hit home because as a recent high school graduate and having a school in our district with a gun scare last year, the horror is all too terrifying and real.

Robert Mueller once said, “All I'm going to tell you is investigations, whether it be this and others, where you have partial facts, analysts, agents are always trying to interpret what those facts mean, extrapolate from them what they mean.” I’m sure he never imagined that one day he would be a spearheading an investigation regarding an American President and Russia. As the investigations continue to be released and arrest are being made, each media source seems to have a different view on how investigations of the Trump Administration are being handled. I have analyzed two credible sources who have two different perceptions of the Mueller Investigations.  Authority, accuracy, objectivity, currency and coverage allows FOX News and MSNBC credible choices.

In October of 2017, Mueller moved to charge the Russian government due to interfering with the United States 2016 election by cyber interference and data theft which resulted in the US receiving the worse president in history. 12 Russian Military Intelligence Officers from the GRU have been indicted along with 13 others from a Russian Research Agency as well as 3 Russian Companies and a man from California who helped with identity theft. Both Fox News and MSNBC, covered this story extremely differently. MSNBC covered several different stories regarding the Russian probe and investigation which also included that Russia used Facebook to influence what media posts were released during the 2016 election. Devoting an average of 3% of their coverage to the Mueller investigation not including the 13% of coverage regarding Trump’s charges and scandals that also centered around the investigation. In January of 2018, Donald Trump ordered that Mueller be fired. MSNBC instantly covered this story and ran the headline for weeks after. Although several Anchors and Analysis on MSNBC had different perceptions and opinions, overall the channel had no hidden propaganda and voiced the truth regarding the Investigation, Updates and Charges against everyone involved unlike Fox News who selectively chose Stories that protected certain individuals involved in the Russian investigation.

Prior to the investigation Fox News was known as “Trump News” until Fox News joined with CNN for a lawsuit towards the Trump Administration. Fox has always run with the latest Trump stories however the coverage of the Mueller investigation was very limited until January when Trump ordered the firing of Mueller.

Ann Givens

Ann Givens is a reporter that specifically reports on law enforcement agencies. She helps to point out and look into the effectiveness on cutting down on gun violence and gun control. She has been using her job for good and to help bring attention to the topic. One of her recent story’s was on a crime lab that helped to cut down on the crime in the area. This specific lab can “process gun casings into a national ballistics database 15 times faster than the other 20 crime labs in the area.”. This then leads to faster results and lends more help to the police in the areas.

Today News App

I downloaded the Today news app to see the different features it had to present it stories and information on the social media platform. Their app is broken up into five different sections. The app offers a home page, watch page, shopping, discover, and setting. It starts by showing all of the trending stories and has the biggest stories to help grab your attention and pull you into the app and get you reading into all that is happening with Today news The front page when I opened the app had the headline “Joy Bauer makes 3 superfood filled recipes’ to help lower blood pressure.” The watch has all of their different show segments, so you can break it u by different reporters and subjects. The app helps to reach out to all of their different demographics, so it is very easy to navigate and find what you are looking for and interested in.

Frisco Coyote Attack

I currently live in Frisco Texas where I have been hearing more and more about Coyotes in my area. In December there was even a reported coyote attack in Frisco. Two joggers were running and towards the end of the job a coyote lunged out and attacked one of the joggers. They reported that he just “kept coming and coming and coming.” Stories like this make the very constant coyote sighting around here very frightening. I interviewed my neighbor Mark Lewis who stated that he saw a very large coyote sitting in the field across from our apartment. He said, “he was just standing there for about 40 minutes and was very large definitely bigger than a large dog.” The police have been stepping up their involvement in this and letting the people know they are trying to help resolve this issue.

Fake News

President trump has been continually accused of spreading fake news and stating different things that are really just used to help him instead of being true. There are many people that have spoken out about this but at the end of this last year our former President spoke up about this issue as he accepted his Human Rights Awards. He talked about the issue of leaders today “making up whatever facts they want.” Because of this issue he states that less and less people trust in the leaders that they once did. I think it is very interesting to see someone with this much power speaking up about issues like this on such a public platform.

Front Page

Newseum use many different approaches to entice its readers into wanting to read their new stories. The two common factors that most front pages share are the giant graphic located to capture your attention and the large text to get your attention, for instance “suspect pleads guilty in fatal shooting.” The difference in format from page to page is very interesting. Some have all of the focus on one point and put it right in the center with bring colors to try and get it to pop right out at you while some other pages make it very easy to read and leave all of the information spread out. All of the different approaches are just aiming to grab your attention off of first glance. From looking I tended to get more pulled into the bigger more colorful graphics.

FAKE NEWS

Fake news is mind blowing easy to make, far more easy than it should be. All I did was simply google 'fake news', and a literal cite came up to make your own fake news articles! So the creator of this website is named Justin Hook, he has been doing this for quite some time and thinks it is comical for people to genuinely believe this stuff. “I think this is something that we can all get behind,” Hook said as if this was no big deal. The communication in this article appears to be trying to expose the flaws and deception of Hook to make others aware. [109 words, 1 quote, 1 image, 1 link]

Apple News Vs Google New

When you think about it; there always has been a competition of how people obtain their news. Most prefer google and others prefer apple. I have dug deeper comparing the two media producers and here is what I have found. First, both of the news includes ads. There is no doubt in mind about that because it is how the companies earn money. When you click on a link, you are basically helping them build more wealth. No, that does not necessarily mean money from your pocket physically. Second, the layout design on google news is quite similar to Apple news. They do both have the bottom headlines that allow you to access your favorite article in one tap away. According to the business insider, Google news keeps it simple as "It supplies you with just four top stories, and they're not categorized. There's a button on the bottom that says "more stories for you," which is the easiest way to get into the app."
Everything you need is just one click away.

international

One thing that unites people is tragedy. As sad as that is, tragedy brings people closer during the tough times. One of the worst tragedies the United States has experienced was the terrorist attack on 9/11 in New York City. The news spread like wildfire, and almost every country was quick to publish this information on their front page news articles. On the front pages, the words "terror", "evil", and "attack" screamed at readers for their attention. Almost every news article posted the infamous picture of the towers being scorched, burning like nothing anyone had ever seen before. The purpose of using such powerful words and images was to be able to get the attention of readers and to inform people of the tragedy that occurred.

CBD Oil in Veterinary Practices

This article is extremely controversial for certain audiences. I work in an animal hospital so I may have a more bias opinion on the subject since I have seen the effects. This debate targets anyone with a pet, should you give CBD oil or should you not? Who is the real judge of this? The rhetoric used in this article is rather persuasive after reading the success stories. They give the testimonies to prove it can truly work wonders for pets and their ailments. However they also give the facts that Veterinarians can also have legal consequences for recommending it depending on its legal status in your state."When it comes to cannabis-based medicine, navigating the legal landscape is very difficult.." says Jeffrey Powers DVM. Since veterinarians are not covered legally to discuss this, it makes the conversations that much more difficult to have with clients. This could potentially have legal consequences for a practice. The New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft is now accused of prostitution and trafficking of women. Florida police are now charging him with two counts of soliciting prostitution. "Much of our evidence comes from the businesses, and also from body-worn cameras of our officers, and also surveillance that we had been conducting over the last several months," Kerr said. "The 77-year-old Robert Kraft was one of the 25 people involved in the alleged solicitation at the orchids of Asia bay in Jupiter. Elephant Endangerment

In June, the president of Botswana, Mokgweetsi Masisi was recommending that parts of his government look into the hunting ban on Elephants. On Thursday, February 21st, the group finally said that it was advising lifting the ban. The group discussed both parts saying that "Proponents of the hunting ban postulate that it is a good and noble conservation effort which will create a conducive environment for increased wildlife populations, and; Those against the hunting ban are of the view that hunting is a good wildlife management tool if properly implemented." In the article, it states that some Elephants have become a burden by destroying people's property. But, how they are also so crucial to the ecosystem. The government walks on thin ice in this issue because, the Elephants, although recovering, have been considered an endangered species when they were heavily hunted for their tusks in the past. The government is considering a "limited' hunting of these Elephants in order to grow their hunting business and to control the population, but to not wipe them out completely.

the front page

As it is known, catching the attention of readers is the main goal for newspapers as their business is dying while technology is booming. So how do they continue to grab the attention of readers? The answer is their front page visuals. As seen in 2015, when same-sex marriage was legalized the words "equality", "love", and "historic ruling" were sprawled across every front page news article. As well as the chosen word choice, pictures were also used to further engage readers. The most famous LGBTQ+ symbol is the rainbow and almost every single front page news article made sure to include it.

Journalist Chika Oduah

One person, who is a journalist, that I read about is Chika Oduah. She is a “Nigerian-American journalist who works as a television news producer, write, photographer, and correspondent for Al Jazeera”. She has educated as well as informed the public about so much. After covering the kidnapping of 276 Chibok schoolgirls by Boko Haram, she became quite popular as the focus of her coverages involved human subjects. She would deeply engage in the peoples lives and their stories in order to create an effective story for people to become aware of around the world. She uses effective strategies such as pathos and ethos in her works in order to get her point across in an impactful manner.

Fake News everywhere

Fake news is somewhat of a recent appearance in the society currently, specifically on social media. There are currently so many different social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and even television in which news is daily spread. Specifically, the term “fake news” was named the word of the year in 2017 and it was known to “raise tensions between nations, and may lead to regulation of social media”. The government as well as other journalists can have quite an impact on an audience through the spread of fake news. Sometimes the news is close to the truth and sometimes it’s just absurd. Journalists use various rhetorical strategies, such as logos and pathos, in order to fool their audience and get them on their side.
