An issue that is under-highlighted in Allen, Texas' community is funding for sports. I had a conversation with my friend Hayden Hurst about this topic. His stance is that the city focuses too much on the football program, specifically the addition of a 60 million dollar football stadium. The stadium is simply too "expensive and unnecessary" for some (Hurst). The event center also creates lots of attention and traffic for citizens who don't appeal to the sport. On the other hand, the stadium is great for the city. It builds more anticipation and excitement for the community to come together to support the aspiring young athletes. Although the stadium is already built and paid for, there are still re-occurring tax debates concerning AISD sports funding.
