Fake News: The Vicious Cycle

Fake News: The Vicious Cycle

In my previous post I discussed methods that can be used to identify fake news. In this post I am going to write about how dangerous and risky fake news can be. I recently watched a video on youtube.com about a conspiracy theory involving “deep fakes”. A deep fake is defined as “an AI-based technology used to produce or alter video content so that it presents something that didn't, in fact, occur”. This AI technology includes both video and sound methods. The reason that I am bringing this up is because it is highly threatening and risky because deep fakes are incredibly realistic. Deep fakes can be dangerously deceiving because anyone could make a video (duplicating both the person’s face and voice) of the President saying that we are going to war with North Korea, everybody would believe it, and all hell would break loose. It is unbelievable how realistic and circumvent these videos or audio clips are. Here is a link to a deep fake that I thought was real: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cQ54GDm1eL0
