Inspired in part by Sharan Daniel's "Integrating Rhetoric and Journalism to Realize Publics" from Rhetoric and Public Affairs, this blog provides a space for students to explore rhetoric in their everyday lives.

Fiona Harvey
Fiona Harvey is an environmentalist and journalist that has won many awards for her work. She works for The Guardian as one of their many reporters. Harvey's main focus in her writing is environmental issues and she has covered an impressive amount of the most significant environmental news throughout the world. She often begins her articles with an image of the part of the environment that is affected by the pollutant or action that she is discussing in her article. For example, in her article "Mussels Lose Grip When Exposed to Microplastics – Study", Harvey places an image of hundreds of blue clams clinging to a rock at the fore front of her article to emphasize the magnitude of the affected population of aquatic life. She continues on in her article to discuss microplastics, which are plastic wastes that are "non-biodegradable" and and in a recent study were found to "induce a strong immune response in mussels" affecting their metabolism and halving their grip strength.
