Google's Algorithm - Crawling

With most internet sessions starting with a Google search, Google plays a very important role in our online lives. So, it’s only fitting that their algorithm is as advanced and efficient as possible.

Google’s complicated process all begins with gathering information from pretty much every website on the internet. Since it wouldn’t be efficient, or practical, to search every web page each time a search is made, Google makes an index of them. That index is then referenced each time a search is made, ensuring that the results come as quickly as possible. They accomplish this by using what’s known as a “[spider] or [crawler] , [which] travel[s] the Web, moving from link to link and building up an index [for] certain keywords”(source).
