Google's Algorithm - PageRank

The key part to Google’s page ranking algorithm is called, wait for it...PageRank. Put simply, PageRank is an “automated process that determines where each search result appears on Google's search engine”(source). PageRank takes many signals into consideration before placing a website high in the search results. One of the more prominent signals PageRank uses is the number of links to the webpage. If a website has many links to it, from other credible sites, it’s likely a good resource, worthy of the first page. But, a bunch of spammy links from low-quality websites won’t help too much, in order to prevent people abusing the system and creating thousands of websites just to build links.
