It is no surprise that the percentage rate of homelessness sleeping outside in Dallas, Texas have increased tremendously. Drivers on near the highway come to a complete halt on a red traffic light. They glance over their shoulder and they spot homeless people curled up in a ball on the corner of the street with numerous blanket trying to stay warm or some pacing around with frayed brown cardboard that says, "Help me." I have asked a couple of people that I am familiar to respond to what they think and feel about the dramatic increase rate of homelessness in Dallas or nearby. One responds, " We are not trying hard enough to come together hand in hand as a community. I have always been told to love and be loved, and it is ignorant to see most Americans decides to be ignorant." According to Fox 4 news article, It is heartbreaking when " anyone has no opportunity for shelter and has to sleep outside,” he said. “It’s not safe. Seventy-eight percent of women who are homeless have been physically or sexually victimized.” Dallas City Councilman, Philip Kingston responds. It is almost like no matter what we as a community come up with is effective nor efficient. Dallas is continuing to seek a solution and help end homelessness or at least reduce the percentage. There are a variety of ideas that the city have come up with but they are not sure it is effective, but the best thing they can do is and hope that homelessness ends.
Expanding homeless shelter across the county may not be an ideal solution but acknowledging that there is hope really makes a difference. The people on the street are doing whatever it takes to meet their survival needs. Their objective is to stay warm and consume something. Another rhetoric strategy for this conflict is the city councilman initiating a fund. Those funds can be utilized to improve housing by making housing more affordable especially for the veterans, senior citizens, young adults and families with a low-income wage. With a little assistance, they are able to have a roof on their heads and eliminate people living on the streets. [ 1 image, 2 links, 1 Quote, 365 words]
