The Front Page Says It All

Many newspapers use different visuals on their front pages to catch the attention of their readers. This is important because most people will simply pick up a newspaper because of what they advertise on the front of it, I know I do. It is really a smart way to catch the reader's attention because visual rhetoric is important. By going on the website http://www.newseum.org/todaysfrontpages/?tfp_show=all&tfp_id=AL_TD you can see many different front pages of different newspaper companies. The Times Daily uses sections on the left side of the paper to categorize their news. This is smart when wanting the readers to find exactly which part of news they are looking for within the paper itself. It also includes a big picture on the front with the story next to it in a small font. You would have to pick up the news paper to read the story, which I think, is the tactic they are going for. It also has the title of the newspaper in a big font on the top which, is very appealing to the eye. Most importantly they have a popular current event on the top saying "Super Bowl: No slowing down the patriots dynasty'". They also advertise their social media on the front of the newspaper, which is smart these days because some readers would prefer to read their news from the author's social media than from the actual newspaper. The Daily Post is another example paper I see on the website and it doesn't stand out to me as much as The Times Daily does. It has a lot of words with one main picture in the middle. It is very busy which some people would like but I think is too much. It has advertisements on the bottom and right hand corner. It also has headlines in bold bigger fonts which is pleasing to the eye. I feel like both papers did a good job on the front page but The Times Daily is more organized which is more pleasing to me. This is why they have to make their front pages so different though because many people find different things appealing. [359 words, 2 images, 1 link, 1 quotation]
