How serious is fake news? Russian president Putin recently passed bills that make it illegal to spread fake news, reaching fines of over 1.5 million rubles ($20,000). It was said that there will be punishment for information that “exhibits blatant disrespect for the society, government, official government symbols, constitution or governmental bodies of Russia.” these insults could be 300,000 rubles and 15 days in jail if the president is disrespected or insulting state symbols. Technology use for media is increasing by the day causing an increase in fake news and recently it has become something many countries have taken very serious and Russia is taking extreme measures to decrease the spread of fake news.
