Good Night and Good Luck
Good Night and Good Luck is one of the most well-known films about strictly journalism. The film is a true story about the famous broadcast journalist named Edward R. Murrow and his news team attempting to bring down Senator Joseph McCarthy. McCarthy capitalized on the fear and paranoia that America had during the "Red Scare." Murrow, along with Fred Friendly, put aside the current news to focus on McCarthy and his fear mongering tactics to manipulate the American people. We're treated to a great trip through the newsroom as the broadcasts are running and we get to see everyone behind the process of journalism. In the film, Murrow played by David Stratharin says, "We have currently a built-in allergy to unpleasant or disturbing information. Our mass media reflect this. But unless we get up off our fat surpluses and recognize that television in the main is being used to distract, delude, amuse, and insulate us, then television and those who finance it, those who look at it, and those who work at it, may see a totally different picture too late." This website compares the film to the real life event of Murrow vs. McCarthy.
